About Us
The Vanilla Tours was created in 1988 by Alain and Cristina Plantier.
They were sailing around the world for a few years when they discovered and fell in love with Tahaa, "the vanilla island".
They eventually found a nice bay to settle in, and start a new life close to nature, planting many trees and of course vanilla.
Their son Noah was born in 1985, when he turned three, a small 4x4 was needed to bring him to the school bus stop.
At that time there was no 4x4 excursions in Tahaa, so they decided on a bigger model (a mighty Toyota BJ42), in order to be able bring people around the island.
Alain had already become very passionate about the local plants and and their traditional uses and decided to show the island and the local culture through the plants.
Fast forward thirty years and a couple of cars, Alain retired and his son took over the tours.
